Its a program that is run by the state of California. California Medical Assistance Program which is California’s Medicaid program helps with medical and dental treatment. Medi-Cal gives dental coverage for qualified patients and families within California.
Previously in California dental benefits program was called Denti-Cal, and you may still hear people say Denti-Cal. Today there is many similar terms related to the same coverage (Denti-cal, Medi-cal, Cal-Optima). According to the state of California each recipient may be eligible for different levels of coverage. Medi-Cal Dental covers all medically-necessary dental care however some patients receive more coverage than others. Great news, kids are covered and there is no annual maximum. Adults who live in a nursing facility also have no maximum.
For adults 21 years of age or older there is no limit for medically necessary treatments but for other services there is a $1800 maximum per year of benefits. In our office we have found for most patients this is more than enough to get you back on the right track to a healthy mouth.
